Video Editor for Technical Educational Content (Remote)

Company: bearcove SARL
Position: Video Editor/Producer for fasterthanlime
Location: Remote (Europe-based preferred)

About us

bearcove is a France-based LLC that produces educational programming content for fasterthanlime.

Some of it is long-form articles and some of it is in-depth technical videos about programming, software development in general, and (computer, but not always) science.

Amos

Work in progress includes a larger range of topics, such as sound, color, etc. — not just “the Rust programming language”, although that’s a common topic.

fasterthanlime content combines technical knowledge with fast-paced visual presentation and requires meticulous attention to detail. See this video for example:

Videos always include:

  • A segment explaining the fasterthanlime business model (video now, article in 6 months, except for subscribers)
  • A sponsored segment, which helps funds video production

The Role

We’re seeking a video editor to help produce high-quality educational content.

This is a paid professional role, not a side project or casual collaboration.

You’ll be working closely with Amos to learn and execute a specific workflow and style.

Key Requirements

  • Location: 🇪🇺 Europe-based preferred (for time zone compatibility)
  • Equipment: 🖥️ Access to a Mac (M2 or thereabouts with at least 16GB RAM)
  • Internet: 🔌 Reliable high-speed fiber connection for good quality video calls
  • Language: 🇬🇧 Good (doesn’t have to be native) English communication skills
  • Availability: 📞 Comfortable with regular video calls for coordination, training and feedback
  • Mindset: 💪 Treat this as professional work with clear boundaries

Technical Requirements

  • Willingness to learn and strictly follow an established DaVinci Resolve workflow
  • Ability to understand the technical content as we go through it together.
Amos

You don’t have to understand everything at once, I can explain stuff but there should be some affinity with science and computers.

  • Comfortable with motion graphics, titles, code highlighting, and technical editing
  • Attention to detail and timing

Explicity Not Required, but also not forbidden

  • Prior knowledge of DaVinci Resolve (we’ll provide training)
  • Programming expertise (understanding basics is helpful, but this is not a programming role)
  • Previous experience in educational content (though media/art background is a plus)

What to Expect

  • The role focuses exclusively on production and post-production, not research or writing
  • Training period with potentially lower compensation as you learn our workflow
  • Professional relationship with clear expectations and regular payment for work delivered
  • Opportunity to develop specialized skills in technical content production

Compensation will be discussed during the interview — the scheme will most likely based on output (minutes edited) + video performance bonuses, rather than an hourly or monthly rate.

How to Apply

Please send your resume, a brief introduction, and examples of relevant work (if any) to hi@bearcove.eu.

Include “Video Editor Application” in the subject line.

(JavaScript is required to see this. Or maybe my stuff broke)

Did you know I also make videos? Check them out on PeerTube and also YouTube!

crates.io phishing attempt

Earlier this week, an npm supply chain attack.

It’s turn for crates.io, the main public repository for Rust crates (packages).

The phishing e-mail looks like this:

A phishing e-mail: Important: Breach notification regarding crates.io Hi, BurntSushi! We recently discovered that an unauthorized actor had compromised the crates.io infrastructure and accessed a limited amount of user information. The attacker's access was revoked, and we are currently reviewing our security posture. We are currently drafting a blog post to outline the timeline and the steps we took to mitigate this. In the meantime, we strongly suggest you to rotate your login info by signing in here to our internal SSO, which is a temporary fix to ensure that the attacker cannot modify any packages published by you.

And it leads to a GitHub login page that looks like this:

Several maintainers received it — the issue is being discussed on GitHub.

The crates.io team has acknowledged the attack and said they’d see if they can do something about it.
